Introduction

Cell phone use in New Zealand is continuing to increase. Voice and text use continue to remain high with New Zealanders using over 10.5 billion minutes of voice and 7.5 billion texts. Data usage has more than doubled in the last three years to 4.21 GB per user per month.

From an evidence point of view this creates billions of pieces of evidence that could be used. Each of these activities has a time, location and sometimes movement data associated with it and all of which, could potentially be used as evidence.

  • Why getting all the data is important
  • Review of some relevant issues.

All the information presented are based on real cases. However, the information used bears no resemblance to the real case. Only the essence of the case is maintained.
