Acting for children as their advocate is an important, privileged role. Since the recent law changes we must not only express children’s views, but must advocate for their welfare and best interests in the way we determine is best for them. This requirement, together with the cost contribution regime, makes the work we undertake for our child clients more open to scrutiny and criticism than at any other time.
We have endeavoured to put together a programme that will appeal to all lawyers acting for children, and to provide up-to-date discussions on a range of relevant and topical issues. Please join with us to update yourself on the recent law changes, discuss the way violence impacts on children, consider how to incorporate cultural considerations and our role as their advocates.
I look forward to seeing you in Wellington on the 10th of November 2014.Chair: Garry Collin Barrister Pegasus Chambers Christchurch |
