The 2004 NZLS seminar on professional liability was well received and the 2009 edition provides an update of recent statutory and common law developments, together with the recognition of important areas of potential liability for professionals.

In addition, the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act (Lawyers: Conduct and Client Care) Rules 2008 came into force on 1 August 2008. They are not an exhaustive statement of the conduct expected of lawyers, but set the minimum standards that lawyers must observe. They are referred to where appropriate.

We hope that practitioners will find the seminar valuable at a practical level in assisting them to avoid some of the more obvious pitfalls for themselves and for the professional clients they advise.
