Kia ora
Whāia te mātauranga hei oranga mō koutou – Seek after learning for the sake of your wellbeing.
It is a privilege for us to represent children in court. And with that privilege comes responsibility: to our child clients, their whānau, the court and ourselves.
When the planning committee met to develop ideas for the day, we agreed on three primary goals for our intensive:
- How to represent Tamariki Māori better
- How to hone our advocacy skills
- How to look after ourselves and maintain our energy and enthusiasm for the role.
We also took the opportunity to co-chair the intensive because we want to recognise and share the different experiences and views we bring as Lawyers for Children/Tamariki.
This intensive is an opportunity for us to come together from across the motu and learn how we can better meet these goals from a great line-up of speakers. It is also an excellent chance for each of us to reflect on our practice and to kōrero with each other about the role: all with the aim of being better Lawyers for Children.
We look forward to seeing and working with you in Wellington on the 6th of May.
Chairs: Stephanie Northey and Stephen van Bohemen
