The Children, Young Persons and their Families youth and criminal jurisdictions. (Oranga Tamariki) Legislation Act 2017 comes fully into force on 1 July 2019. The amendments constitute the most significant changes since the original 1989 Act. It is vital that practitioners working in this area are not only up to date with the specific legislative amendments, but also have a firm grasp on the important changes to the principles, purposes and processes contained in the Act.

This seminar is a rallying call to hear, heed and implement the spirit of what was and remains revolutionary child protection law. It will encourage reflection on the value accorded to the mahi of child care and protection and to suggest how the legislation can be harnessed for the better benefit of children and whānau.

Topics covered will include:

  • The context within which the Act sits
  • Obligations in respect of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Key legislative changes
  • Tikanga Māori in relation to the Act.

Please contact us if you use a dial up internet connection.
